Quittance by Joseph Brassard Deschenaux for payment of taxes and rents by the Sisters of the Congrégation

Pointe-aux-Trembles de Quebec (Neuville), 7 March 1785.
Quittance by Joseph Brassard Deschenaux for payment of taxes and rents by the Sisters of the Congrégation

The Sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame paid taxes and rent, that is, dues to the seigneur who ceded land to them. The quittance, similar to a receipt, was written proof that the debtor had paid the required sum of money to the creditor. This document shows that Joseph Brassard Deschenaux, seigneur de Neuville, confirmed payment by the Sisters of the Congrégation for the year 1784.
