Marie-Louise Dorval (Sister Sainte-Élisabeth)

Marie-Louise Dorval, named sœur Sainte-Élisabeth, was born on June 7, 1794 in Sainte-Famille, Île d’Orléans and died in Montreal on August 1, 1866. After the death of her parents, she entered the novitiate in 1815 and made profession two years later. During her first 14 years of religious life, she taught at different missions throughout Quebec. She was Novice Mistress in Montreal from 1831 to 1837, and Local Superior in various missions. In 1848, she became Assistant to the Superior and then Superior of the Congregation in 1849. In 1857, following her six-year term, she accompanied the four Sisters who founded the first mission in the Maritime Provinces, in Arichat, Nova Scotia. On her return to Montreal, she retired to the infirmary, where she lived for ten years until her death.
