Marie-Sara Paradis (Sister Sainte-Marie-du-Cénacle)

Superior general from 1925 to 1932

Marie-Sara Paradis, named sœur Sainte-Marie-du-Cénacle, was born on April 12, 1864 in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce and died on March 28, 1938 in Montreal. She studied at the convent school of the Congregation, entered the novitiate in 1882 and made profession in 1884. Her first mission was in Quebec where she taught for one year. The following 31 years were spent in Bourbonnais (Illinois) where she occupied the position of Local Superior for 16 years. In 1916, she was appointed Superior of the Saint-François-du-Sud Convent and in 1922 she became Superior of the Mother House. In 1923, she was named Assistant to the Superior General and was elected Superior General in 1925. During her six-year term the Institut pédagogique opened. She later became Superior of the Saint-Sauveur Convent in Quebec, and then of the Académie-des-Saints-Martyrs-canadiens in Montreal. She died during this last mandate.
