Mother Louise de Chomedey de Sainte-Marie introduces Marguerite Bourgeoys to Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve during his visit to the Congrégation Notre-Dame Convent

Mother Louise de Chomedey de Sainte-Marie was director of the extern congregation of the Congrégation Notre-Dame à Troyes (France) and Marguerite Bourgeoys, the prefect. Louise spoke to Marguerite about Canada and introduced her to her brother, Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve, Governor of Ville-Marie (Montreal). While the Congrégation Notre-Dame wished to establish itself in Ville-Marie, the difficult conditions there made the establishment of a cloistered community impossible. Nevertheless, de Maisonneuve wanted a teacher and approached the person whom his Sister had referred to him: Marguerite Bourgeoys, then 33 years old.
