In 1668, Catherine Crolo, Marguerite Bourgeoys’s first companion who had arrived in 1659, took charge of the Pointe Saint-Charles farm house, known today as Maison Saint-Gabriel. She was responsible for the development and the administration of the lands which were farmed on a large-scale and on which were vegetable gardens, fruit orchards and livestock. Many farmhands were hired to work the land in order to meet the needs of the members of the Congregation.
